Summary: IE 7.0 block files when trying to download

Initial Comment:
When clicking on one of the .msi links to download Wix3.0, Internet Explorer 7.0 blocks the download, because the content doesn't match the expected !

I don't hope these files are made with Wix, users getting such an error will definately not use my program :-(

...or is it a server error?

Please fix it (I normally don't have problems downloading files from other sites)

Ok, I resolved the problem.
(The urls you mention, were the ones, and IE is the exact same version)
In IE's advanced settings, I had checked: "Open files based on content,
not filetype."
Apparently this did not work.
Now I can download and run without problems.

Can you give a URL you couldn't download? I just tried
http://wix.sourceforge.net/releases/3.0.3015.0/Wix3.msi and
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wix/Wix-3.0.2925.0.msi with IE 7.0.5730.11
and had no problems.

Summary: XmlFile|Config doesn't preserve existing XML format

Initial Comment:
Hi Devs,

XmlFile|XmlConfig actions when changing existing files are reformatting them using tab indention, causing the whole file content to differ.
Please use pixd->put_preserveWhiteSpace(VARIANT_TRUE) as in attached patch (see attachments) for every time you open file with IXMLDOMDocument.

Alternatively you can setup whitespace preservation as a parameter to XmlFile|XmlConfig, but I think if you at least respect actual XML file format this would be enough and make happy all WiX users.

Note: Even Microsoft and you don't use tabs for XML formatting of your files.. so forcing XML to be indented with tabs when doing XmlFile is IMHO a bug.

I'm jabberd2 (XMPP service daemon) Windows version maintainer. Currently I'm preparing advanced installer of jabberd2 using WiX. I'm using XmlFile to change some entries on XML config files on setup.

Jabberd config files are quite complicated and having lots of comments, lots of commented out sections, etc. And most important thing they're not using tab indention as it is by default in MSXML.

After XmlFile does the change, and because preserveWhiteSpace of XMLDOMDocument is off, it does reformat of all into the tabbed indention, ruining the whole outline of commented out sections, and making the file look different.

This is major showstopper for me, cause XML files are heart of jabberd2, so now I'm using my custom built WiX with the patch below.

I'd be glad if you update the WiX with proposed changes (or any close alternative), so anybody else that's building jabberd2 have the same MSI output file as me.

See attached patch,

Thanks for great WiX!

Summary: Native Code Project Reference Preprocessor Support

Initial Comment:
This has to do with the pre-processor project variables that are created during a build with Wix v3.0.

I ran across this: wix-devs@lists.sourceforge.net/msg02844.html">http://www.mail-archive.com//msg02844.html

Which mentions:

-----------------

Also it's important to note that native VC project references don't work
either. That's because VC projects are not MSBuild-compliant and so I'll
have to write a lot of custom code to dig into the VC project file that
isn't technically supported (I'd be in no-man's land). Again, if people
want this feature (it's a feature request and not a bug), then I may be
able to get to it.

-------------

Well, our installations have native custom actions. Since we?d like to build everything out of Visual Studio (incidentally using VSTFS), it?d be great to have this feature so we could reference our native CA dll?s within our wix project.

So, I?d like to express interest in this feature.

(I?m currently using Wix 3.0.2921.0).

I should be able to set elements to the root of the web site. The root of the web site is the element. Right now could be nested only in .

Could the prioiry of this feature be raised. It is something that I need
to allow me to use WiX v3 for the creatation of a website that needs to
serve vbd documents (don't ask!).

Agreed. We'll address this in WiX v3.
