Sun CEO Responds to Criticism from Linus Torvalds
by Java News Desk

(June 14, 2007) - From Jonathan Schwartz's recent blog entry: 'Linus, First, I'm glad you give credit to Sun for the contributions we've made to the open source world, and Linux specifically - we take the commitment seriously. It's why we freed OpenOffice, elements of Gnome, Mozilla, delivered Java, and a long list of other contributions that show up in almost every distro. Individuals will always define communities, but Sun as a company has done its part to grow the market - for others as much as ourselves.'

(June 14, 2007) - WSO2 is the ambitious two-year-old Sri Lanka start-up that's writing a complete open source middleware platform for Web Services on Intel Capital's nickel expecting it to become the standard. It says it's the same as a comprehensive SOA platform. It is looking ahead to a Mashup Server written in JavaScript this fall. It expects to have an external Web Services Registry this year and it's working on Web Service management. Then come business rules, governance and policy, security and a portal, all based on its Web Services Framework.

Why End-to-End SOA Testing is Essential
We Expect a Lot from SOA. Testing Ensures We Get It
by Java News Desk

(June 14, 2007) - We expect a lot from SOA. We want business agility to support growth, attention to customers and efficient, collaborative operations. But you can?t expect what you don't inspect. Composite applications that are constantly changing call for a new testing paradigm to assure that business processes will work as expected over the complex, heterogeneous environments of multiple protocols and transports. We need visibility across ESBs, across the application life cycle and across the producer-consumer community. Agility demands automation for speed and reusability. It also requires testing functions unique to integration ? which is why this is a new investment for most organizations. The risk of not becoming more agile for business results is part of the drive to make quality assurance key in any SOA initiative. Hear real-world examples of what automated end-to-end testing delivers today to several Fortune 500 companies.
